Digital Photography – Managing Your Images

Monday 18/9/17 – 9/10/17 2:00pm – 4:30pm Fee £15

This brilliant 4 week course is a must for anyone who has digital images that need rescuing! We’ll show you how easy it can be to remove ‘red eye’, dust and scratches from scans and even crop out that thumb in the corner of what should have been a perfect photo! Once you’ve got the clean image you want we’ll also look at colour enhancement, contrast and brightness, converting images to black and white and other effects that can enhance your images. Please note: This course is NOT about photography technique. Learners must be:
• Experienced in using a computer keyboard and mouse At the end of the course learners will be able to:
• Create folder structures to organise images
• Remove ‘red eye’ from images
• Clean dust and scratches from images using a ‘clone’ or ‘heal’ tool
• Adjust the colours, brightness and contrast of an image
• Rotate and straighten an image
• Resize an image or crop it to remove unwanted material

A Taste of Art

Tuesday 19/9/17 – 10/10/17 1:15pm – 3:45pm
£15 course fee plus £15 materials fee

If you’ve always wanted to try your hand at art – but not been sure what kind – then this new 4 week course is for you! Each week we’ll have a ‘taste’ of a different medium to help you decide where your creative talent lies. You’ll have the opportunity to learn some basic drawing and sketching techniques using graphite and charcoal before we move on to the world of soft pastels. After getting to grips with some clay modelling we’ll end the course looking at the more traditional medium of painting with watercolours and acrylics.
Course requirements: Bring an old shirt/blouse/top to help protect your clothing
At the end of the course learners will be able to:
• Sketch a simple image using pencil and/or charcoal
• Create a coloured image using pastels
• Have a basic understanding of mixing colours (colour theory)
• Produce a simple painting of a sunset using watercolours or acrylics
• Create a three dimensional piece in clay

Beginners Watercolour

Wednesday 1/11/17 – 22/11/17 1:15pm – 3:45pm
£15 course fee plus £15 materials fee

Due to popular request we’re pleased to welcome back this 4 week course introducing learners to painting with watercolours. Covering basic techniques, equipment and textures learners can expect a relaxed, informal but extremely informative approach to using this medium.

• At the end of the course learners will be able to:-
• Demonstrate how to mix colours
• Understand and use techniques such as ‘layering’
• Use different mediums to create textures and effects in a painting

All course materials will be provided. If you need assistance to pay for course materials please contact the centre as funding may be available.
NOTE:- It is advisable to bring an old shirt or top to wear over your clothes to avoid splashes to existing clothing.

More Art of Drawing

Tuesday 7/11/17 – 28/11/17 10:00am – 12:30pm
£15 course fee plus £10 materials fee

New for 2017 and an absolute ‘must do’ course for anyone who paints as a hobby or who just wants to learn how to draw. We’ll start with the basics and introduce perspective, proportion, textures, shading techniques and a whole lot more. Whether you want to draw landscapes, still life or figures, the techniques learned on this course will equip you with the knowledge to tackle these and more.

At the end of the course learners can expect to be able to:
• Check proportion to help them accurately draw objects.
• Draw more complex objects using the knowledge gained.
• Use a variety of basic shading techniques.
• Create a variety of textures.
• Understand and use basic perspective.

Get your sparkle on!! Come and join the fun with your fellow crafty enthusiasts. This course will concentrate on all things Christmas.
By the end of the course you will create:
• A variety of Christmas decorations
• Christmas gift packaging ideas
• A bespoke Christmas card

Improvers Watercolour

Hot on the heels of the popular Beginner’s Watercolours course this brand-new course is designed to add to the previous knowledge gained and fine tune areas that artists generally find more challenging including proportion and perspective. We’ll also be looking at additional tips, tricks and techniques to create new textures and effects to help add further interest to your work.

At the end of the course learners can expect to:
• Feel more confident in portraying depth by the correct use of perspective.
• Be able to create additional textures using a variety of techniques and ‘materials’.
• Confidently produce a Pen and Wash painting.

Course requirements: Previous knowledge of basic watercolour painting is preferred.
NOTE:- It is advisable to bring an old shirt or top to wear over your clothes to avoid splashes to existing clothing.
