Beginner’s Courses

Computer Basics Made Easy for 50+

Wednesday 15/11/17 – 13/12/17 1:00pm – 4:15pm £20

This 5 week course is specially designed for the mature 50+ learner. Delivered in an easy to understand manner, learners are often surprised at the ease with which they are able to learn the basics.
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
• Personalise the desktop and understand the filing structure of a computer
• Know how to stay safe online and use anti-virus software
• Download software safely
• Search for, and view different websites and find information on the internet
• Keep in touch by email and send attachments
• Use Skype to stay in touch with family and friends
• Move images from a camera or smartphone onto your computer

Digital Photography – Managing Your Images

Friday 18/9/17 – 9/10/17 2:00pm – 4:30pm Fee £15

This brilliant 4 week course is a must for anyone who has digital images that need rescuing!
We’ll show you how easy it can be to remove ‘red eye’, dust and scratches from scans and even crop out that thumb in the corner of what should have been a perfect photo! Once you’ve got the clean image you want we’ll also look at colour enhancement, contrast and brightness, converting images to black and white and other effects that can enhance your images.
Please note: This course is NOT about photography technique.
Learners must be:
• Experienced in using a computer keyboard and mouse
At the end of the course learners will be able to:
• Create folder structures to organise images
• Remove ‘red eye’ from images
• Clean dust and scratches from images using a ‘clone’ or ‘heal’ tool
• Adjust the colours, brightness and contrast of an image
• Rotate and straighten an image
• Resize an image or crop it to remove unwanted material

Introduction to IPads – Get the most our of your device

Tuesday 14/11/17 – 12/12/17 1:00pm – 4:15pm Fee £15

Do you have a tablet? Do you know how it works? Let’s find out together. This course is for like-minded people trying to keep up with the technological era.

By the end of this course you will:

  • Be able to identify and upload apps
  • Personalise your IPad
  • Be able to use your tablet to search the internet
  • Be able to send and retrieve emails on your tablet

Intermediate Courses

IT 4 Work

Friday 3/11/17 – 1/12/17 9:15am-12:30pm only £20

This course is a great introduction to the IT skills that you would need for admin, receptionist or for your club or group. If you can never find your documents or need to send emails to groups of people, this is the course for you. An interactive and fun course to learn the basics of common applications including, Word Processing, Excel (spreadsheets), PowerPoint and Outlook. During this course you will learn how to:

  • Organise their files/folders and create a poster
  • Write a letter and create a mail merged document
  • Create a simple spread sheet using basic formula
  • Format a spread sheet and create a variety of charts
  • Use outlook email, creating contacts list, sending attachments, setting up mailing groups
  • Create a basic presentation

Level 1 Award in IT User Skills (QCF)

Attending twice per week Tuesdays and Wednesdays
14/11/17 – 13/12/17 9:15am – 12:15pm

This course is for those who wish to gain IT skills used in the workplace at level 1. Attending twice a week you will gain the skills in:

  • Word Processing – creating documents, inserting tables, pictures and applying formats
  • Excel – creating simple worksheets, inserting formula and creating charts
  • PowerPoint – create a presentation with text and images

This is a recognised qualification and is a fantastic foundation before moving on to Level 2.

If you are unemployed a £10 deposit will secure your place and is refundable on full completion of the course. If you are in employment a fee of £180 is payable
